There was a time when the internet operated on a relatively simple principle:
Publish more content, and you increase your chances of being seen.
In many ways, early SEO rewarded scale. Entire industries emerged around producing massive quantities of articles, keywords, backlinks, and pages designed primarily to satisfy algorithms rather than humans.
For a while, it worked.
But something interesting has been happening over the last several years — especially with the rise of AI-generated content.
Google itself appears to be evolving from:
“Put anything online and we’ll index it”
toward something much closer to:
“Demonstrate meaningful value, or visibility becomes increasingly difficult.”
That shift may explain why concepts like EEAT have become so important.
EEAT stands for:
- Experience
- Expertise
- Authoritativeness
- Trustworthiness
At first glance, these look like ordinary SEO guidelines.
But the deeper I think about them, the more philosophical they seem.
Because what Google is actually trying to solve is not merely a technical problem.
It is attempting to solve a human problem:
How do you distinguish meaningful communication from industrial-scale noise?
That challenge has become even more urgent in the age of AI.
Today, competent content can be generated almost infinitely. Articles, summaries, product reviews, tutorials, and list posts can now be produced faster than ever before.
But this creates a strange paradox:
The easier content becomes to generate technologically, the more valuable authentic human experience becomes.
That may explain why Google added the extra “E” for Experience.
Experience points toward something difficult to fake completely:
- real experimentation,
- lived engagement,
- operational familiarity,
- mistakes,
- learning,
- and practical understanding.
In other words:
the internet may be slowly rediscovering the value of genuine human involvement.
Ironically, this means technology is now being used to approximate qualities humans associate with trust and meaning.
A technological system is attempting to identify signals of authenticity.
Not perfectly, of course.
Algorithms cannot fully understand wisdom, ethics, or sincerity.
But the direction itself is revealing.
The web appears to be shifting from:
“content at scale”
toward:
“meaning at scale.”
This has major implications for affiliate marketing as well.
For years, many affiliate sites focused almost entirely on volume:
- more articles,
- more keywords,
- more links,
- more products,
- more optimisation.
But increasingly, that approach feels unstable.
Why?
Because when everyone has access to the same AI tools, templates, and automation systems, information itself becomes less scarce.
Trust becomes the scarce resource instead.
That changes everything.
It means the future may belong less to those who simply publish the most content, and more to those who develop:
- coherent systems,
- genuine experience,
- interpretive ability,
- and meaningful relationships with their audience.
I’ve started noticing this shift while building Affiliate Pathways.
Some of the most valuable content I’ve created has not emerged from trying to “game” algorithms. Instead, it came from documenting real processes:
- Meta Ads experiments,
- analytics interpretation,
- email automation struggles,
- conversion tracking,
- and lessons learned through actual use.
Those experiences carry a kind of narrative gravity that generic content often lacks.
And perhaps that is where the future of online business is heading.
Not away from technology.
But toward a deeper integration between technology and human judgment.
Technology still matters enormously.
AI matters.
Analytics matter.
Automation matters.
But increasingly, the systems that endure may be those built upon something deeper than optimisation alone.
Because in the end, algorithms may become sophisticated enough to imitate competence.
But humans are still the ones searching for meaning.
