That question can be asked in other ways. How difficult is affiliate marketing? How easy is affiliate marketing?
The word competition itself deserves exploration. If something is more competitive, you have to ask why it is competitive. What makes it more competitive? Another word synonymous to competition is “demand.” When something is in demand many people rush to it — actually, demand is the result of many people clamouring for the same commodity — the classic economic description. And, in reverse order, if there is an oversupply of a commodity in the market, the demand goes down — it then becomes easy to obtain but so does its value.
Where does this put affiliate marketing? Many people are heading to it. Does it make it more competitive, therefore? This is where it gets interesting. Because of the low entry requirements, there is easy access — and so in that sense, notwithstanding the demand, it is still possible to get into it. At the moment it does not show any signs of saturation — there is still plenty of room.
So, the question is: is it still worth it? That would depend on how many are truly successful. It therefore stands to reason that it is not sufficient to enter into affiliate marketing but you have to succeed in it. And, success requires many things. You have to have the right expertise on your side — the right tools, the right strategies, the right advice. Do you have these?

But apart from the many other things you need to succeed in affiliate marketing, what you need to work on yourself. You have to have motivation. That is a subject in its own right — which I hope to revisit in another post. For the moment, I would like to point out that in order to succeed in affiliate marketing, you need to forge a special relationship with the concept of competition. Some people are instigated by the very sound of competition. Others may be put off by it. Every individual to their own inclinations — we don’t judge.
The important thing to understand is that our attitude to anything is shaped culturally — that is, we take the meanings that are handed to us and depending on our inclinations fit those meanings into our consciousness. They become like the clothes we leave into the back of wardrobe — comfortable in the knowledge that they are there, should we ever need them in an emergency. When there is an emergency, we do reach for them unquestioningly. That is what we call an impulse — a conditioned response shaped by many forces. I believe that competition is one of those notions.
We tend to regard it with an equal measure of dread and awe.
The point to remember is this: the more competitive an industry, the more challenging it is to succeed in it. True. However, that also means it is more lucrative. What would be the point of entering an industry that has no potential? It is, therefore, a good thing that it is challenging.
Competitiveness, therefore, can also be good in that sense.
It is not competition but the meanings we take from it that makes us like or dislike it.
