Consider this post as one of the central pillars of your beginner’s guide on affiliate marketing. Because success in this context means leveraging niche opportunities for affiliate marketing. The concept of niche is, therefore, central to your project.
A niche is defined by an interest in which people are invested emotionally — it’s a passion with which they identify or which they feel enhances their life experiences . . . it’s about fulfilment.
A niche is also a marketing term used to demarcate an area of interest that can be monetised. The moot question then is: what are the most profitable niches? These are:
- health
- wealth
- personal growth
Their main characteristics are that they are highly specific and have the classic quality of never going out of fashion; and are therefore endowed with an enduring lucrativeness. Collectively, they also make up the evergreen niche list — so named after the vegetation that never goes out of season.
Each niche (broadly speaking, and not just the examples of evergreen niches) is also defined by its market potential — that is, how much it could possibly earn an affiliate were they to choose and promote it.
Interestingly, affiliate marketing itself is a niche valued at an astounding $17 billion.
The market potential of each niche is important, since the affiliate’s strategy is to drive traffic using different methods — email; social media; search engines. And in this respect, there are broadly two types of traffic: organic; and paid traffic.
The first type of traffic, organic traffic — which some platforms teach their affiliates to aim for initially — costs not only nothing (other than creating high quality content) but is also more authentic. Organic traffic, is promoted by search engines such as Google purely on merit, that is, the quality of the information they provide and this feature is considered invaluable.
From the affiliate’s perspective, this means they are going to get only the audience they want (no need to have to tell the chaff from the grain) but being ranked high by Google itself becomes a certification of authenticity. Who can beat that?
And, all this is for free. Imagine.

Cutting To The Chase Now
We could be talking about these things till the cows come home. Let’s get cracking then. What are critical tasks in assessing niches?
I’ll only present the itemised list of the tasks here — and their relevant subtasks — postponing for the moment the discussion necessary for their elaboration. Because of its importance, each item deserves its own discursive treatment. A mere bullet point can’t do justice to it.
Moreover, as an educator I believe in systematic, organised learning — as opposed to drowning you in information in the faint hope that it may somehow prove useful. Information, I believe, is only valuable when it becomes knowledge — a pet theme of mine . . . so, please indulge me, do. In other words, it’s not information itself but what we intend to do with it that matters ultimately. And, since my aim is to create something of lasting value for you, I feel that this strategy is fully justified. Please find listed below the essential learning tasks for affiliate marketers.
