8020 Rule Applied To Affiliate Marketing

As affiliate marketers, we’re in the optimising business. We tweak and tweak until we get the best results.

In the previous post, The 80/20 Principle In Affiliate Marketing, I discussed hard evidence — the gold standard by which we judge whether something actually works. I also discussed the role of skepticism — healthy skepticism — in our quest for understanding, in particular our quest for understanding affiliate marketing.

And in an even earlier post (See here) I referred to a set of key metrics and how the 80 20 Pareto principle could be applied to them in our business. That discussion was a bit general — and deliberately so, to give you a broad idea of the Pareto principle 80 20 rule. Treat that as an introduction to this post where I intend to provide the results of further research into proof.

I wasn’t happy just making references in a general way and felt compelled to extend my research beyond the original intent, focussing this time on specifics. I refined my research question to — Where can I find Pareto principle examples directly relevant to affiliate marketing? Below are the answers to that question.

Pareto Principle Performance Case Studies In Affiliate Marketing

1. Keywords

“After analyzing our keyword performance, we found that about 20% of our keywords were driving 80% of our traffic and sales. Focusing our SEO efforts on these high-performing keywords significantly boosted our organic reach and affiliate revenue.”

2. Content

“Through careful analysis, we discovered that a handful of our blog posts were responsible for the majority of our traffic and backlinks. By applying the 80/20 rule and concentrating on these top-performing pieces, we were able to drive significant growth in both traffic and search rankings.”

3. Traffic

“By applying the Pareto Principle, I found that a small number of traffic sources were responsible for most of my website’s conversions. Doubling down on these high-performing sources allowed me to optimize my efforts and increase my affiliate revenue effectively.”

4. Channels

“Using the 80/20 rule, I identified that a few marketing channels were driving the bulk of my affiliate marketing success. Focusing on these high-impact channels, such as SEO and email marketing, resulted in a significant increase in my overall marketing ROI.”

Neil Patel, “How to Use the 80/20 Rule to Unlock Maximum Returns on Your Marketing Efforts.”

These examples of Pareto principle applications by authoritative figures in the industry speak for themselves. They also prove the Pareto principle performance metrics by which we can measure the effectiveness of this principle as a marketing technique.

So, what’s the message here?

Replicating these actions, can enhance our results significantly. If I could put it simply in pictures, this is how I’d put it . . .

However, that’s not to suggest that there are no risks, that I can eliminate risk altogether. No, that’s not the claim.

Equally, overthinking never got us anywhere. So, if I were to simplify the message but without oversimplifying it, then that’s what it would look like.

Take Action

80 20 Pareto principle — or for that matter any principle — can only work if you take action.

Now that’s where risk comes in. I understand.

So, how about taking out the risk completely in exploring these key metrics in a practical manner?

Wait, there’s an even better option — now that you understand the Pareto Principle, there’s a whole host of opportunities on working efficiently — or optimally — in any field.

In other words, the Pareto Principle itself is a lucrative niche. Don’t you think people all over the world want to know how to work productively, moving ahead, cruising past the competition? This competition can be just as well with oneself — self-transcendence, in other words. That’s another way of looking at the problem.

But whichever way you try to look at this problem, there are at least 4 great opportunities that come under this niche:

  • Productivity Tools
  • Time Management Coaching
  • Business Consulting
  • Online Courses on Efficiency
